Sustainable intelligent design. Practical materials selection. Built to last. Hand made in the Lake District.

Living a sustainable life in the Lake District has always been our dream.
— Rick Fallowfield

After years of working on super yachts and a hectic life travelling the world, we decided it was time to live differently and raise our children in a place where they can play outdoors and enjoy the natural surroundings. The obvious choice was the Lake District. Rick grew up in the region and always knew that he would return to his roots one day. We bought a home in a stunning area of the Lakes plus six acres of land.

Meet the Team

Rick & Amanda Fallowfield Co-Founders

Rick’s experience as a marine engineer from superyachts around the world has provided the inspiration for innovative and sustainable design back home in the Lake District.

Amanda is originally from Australia, but is settling quite well into Lake District life. Amanda and Rick met while she was working as a chief stewardess on super yachts. She’s often on-site supporting production for South Barn 1850.

Sawmill and Timber Products

Having built our own barns and field shelters to support our small holding, we’re now able to offer a range of sawmill and timber processing services.

Our experience has led to a range of custom hand-finished furniture, and the design and build of agricultural buildings.

Timber we’ve processed is suitable for construction and joinery projects and is sourced from locally managed estates.
